DEVELOPMENT OR ILLUSION

AN APPEAL TO GUJARATI VOTERS

HOW DEVELOPED?
It is wrong to say, Gujarat did not develop; it did – but for a select few, and is lopsided. Some other states have developed even faster. Worse, Gujarat’s present development model is ruining its future. We the Gujaratis are the 4th most indebted people of India with 20% of our tax revenues going to pay interest alone.

ME OR US?
In 1947 we shifted from kings and dictators to parliamentary democracy: where people elect legislators who then elect CM or PM. A society so diverse and complex as ours needs Uniters, not Dividers; collective, not individualistic leadership. Love, not fear, and consensus, not ego should characterize our leaders.

ILLUSION OR REALITY?
Lies, deception and illusion – such as shown in this picture – have distorted the reality. Gujarat was amongst the top three states for decades. Gujarati entrepreneurship has been legendary even before Jahangir’s times, and is not dependent on one man, or party.

PROMISES BROKEN:
Despite tall promises 80% of Narmada canal work remains incomplete, over three lakh electricity connections are pending, six lakh new BPL families have been added; Sadly Gujarat now ranks poorly: No.21 in education, No.12 in life expectancy and No.10 in health index. No major IT companies opened here; no Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Intel here. Our boys still go to South India for IT. On unemployment our rank worsened from 9th to 5th.

HERA PHERI:
A few major industrialists have profited hugely at your cost. At least three states have done better than us economically. Only about 14% of Vibrant MOU money actually came in.

We have no LokAyukta even today, CAG’s questioned amount exceeds ` 26,000 cr, Arvind Kejriwal has alleged huge frauds in gas allocation.

COMMON SUFFERING:
Ponzi schemes like Abhay Gandhi’s have defrauded thousands. Thousands of children have disappeared and over 37,000 poor committed suicides in this decade. Our sex ratio fell alarmingly and malnutrition increased. RTC routes have been reduced. We have to pay huge toll tax on every highway. Even Kankaria lake is so costly. No tax concessions are given by state on petrol, CNG.

APPEAL:
We appeal to Gujarat’s voters, young and old, women and men, not to waste their precious vote. Please vote for genuine secularism, Gandhian nationalism, inclusive and all-round development, parliamentary democracy, international vision. Vote the way Nehru and Patel would have voted.
