MORE SAD THAN ANGRY

IF I AM A MUSLIM I CAN BE BEATEN UP WITHOUT FAULT  

Is this what India has now become? Have these cops been punished sternly? 
 
Isn't the communal poison rapidly seeping into our forces? Into our families? Into the brains and hearts of our innocent children who just should not hear any of this? 
 
How does all this augur for the unity and strength of our nation? 
 
Is this the India where my mind would be without fear and Tagore's head held high? Where knowledge and wisdom would flow in from all sides for today's Gandhis? 
 
How will our children coup with the global condemnation we are receiving by letting the baser instincts of some of us overtake the rest of us? Are we presenting the snake-charmer's India to them? 
 
Am I worried? Yes, I am. For myself, my secular Hindu friends and for the country for which I gave up much, for far too long. 
 
Am I angry? Yes, but more saddened than angered. Sad because I see the frustration all around. Anger comes to those with energy for action. I feel drenched of it after over a decade of the perpetuation of this lie: that hum sab ek hain! 
 
Are we one? Truly? You believe so? You worked for it, ever? You are willing to work for it now? Then I am willing to stand up again and walk with you. Work with you. Till I die. Try holding my hand, and see.
