M Hasan Jowher
Mr. Jowher (b.1953) is a concerned citizen and social activist by choice and a banker, teacher and manager by training.
As a qualified and trained banker, he worked his way up from a junior management position to that of the CEO of a small bank. Keenly interested in scientific advances and use of modern technology, Mr. Jowher was instrumental in computerizing the operations of several banks and institutions. The Indian Banks’ Association (Gujarat ) elected him as its Hon. Secretary. As the Regional Secretary of the Indian Institute of Public Administration, he worked to sensitize administrators of Gujarat to people's grievances. For a living he founded and successfully ran a management and IT consulting company that helped restructure banks and improve the bottom-lines of SMEs for nearly a decade.
A popular public speaker and occasional writer, Mr. Jowher has also been a guest faculty at the IIM Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) and several banking and other management schools.
Combining social service with a technology vision, Mr. Jowher founded and was elected the Chairman of the Gujarat Internet Users’ Group (http://www.giug.org.in). He was also the Coordinator of IEEE’s Special Interest Group in Management & Information Technology (SIG-MIT) , while Gujarat Internet Users Group appointed him its Chair
A concerned social activist, in his spare time, he has been regularly contributing to various national causes, including the promotion of communal harmony, rational thinking, corruption-free administration and pollution-free environment.
However, since March 2002, following the Godhra related communal disturbances of Gujarat, Mr Jowher has completely devoted himself to SPRAT, the Society for Promoting Rationality [www.sprat.in], which he co-founded, and of which he is Whole-time Director and President / CEO.
